15 Nollywood Actors Whose Parents Are Also Actors (Photos): The Nigerian film industry is filled with many talented individuals and asides passion, talent, it could be also be linked to some actors who have — or had parents in Nollywood.
It might not have given them direct access to the top, but it definitely created some sort of guidance to aid their careers as actors, as against those who do not have parents in the movie industry. Let’s take a look at some Nollywood actors you might not have known have/had actor parent.
1. Sola, Bidemi and Temilade Kosoko
Bidemi, Sola and Temilade Kosoko are children of veteran Nollywood actor, Prince Jide Kosoko.
Bidemi Kosoko is one of the versatile and talented actresses in Nollywood and she was born December 21, 1988. She and Sola are sisters from the same mother. Bidemi developed an interest in movies right from when she was a little girl. According to her father, Bidemi usually follows him to auditions to see how they were acting. She is also married with a kid.
Temilade Kosoko is another stunning Nollywood actress that was born on April 27, 2000 and also her father’s daughter. Apart from being an actress, she is a comedian and dancer that has won many awards.
Temi is a regular face on Instagram and youtube skits. Sometimes she does skits with her father she has been doing her father proud with her comedy skits and acting talents.
2. Moji, Kunle, Aremu and Gabriel Afolayan
Adeyemi Afolayan died about 24 years ago from stroke complications but his memory lives on. Ade Love, as he was fondly called, was an actor, director, producer and playwright. Kunle, Gabriel, Aremu and Moji Afolayan have kept his legacy and are all respected and successful members of the Nollywood industry their father helped build.
Moji Afolayan – Olayiwola ( born 5 February 1968) is Ade Love’s first daughter and his only child to hold a real role in the late filmmaker’s movie. She first appeared in Iya Ni Wura (1985) as an extra, then in Idi Oromi in 1991, playing the lead role. Kunle Afolayan once said “My sister, Moji, featured in his last film, Eyin Oku (Events after death), in 1992. Moji has continued to appear in various movies since then. She has also dabbled into film production, releasing her first film, Tojubole in 2012. She appears more in Yoruba movies and is highly respected amongst her peers in that industry. She features in a lot of movies produced by her husband, Rasaq Olayiwola, popularly known as Ojopagogo.
Kunle Afolayan (born 30 September 1974) is arguably the most successful and dedicated of them all. Although his father tried to discourage him from acting and filmmaking, Kunle found his way back to the art. He had initially taken his father’s advice and studied business administration at Lagos State Polytechnic before taking a job at a bank. But he couldn’t stay away from filmmaking for too long. He got his first taste of acting as a ‘waka-pass’ on his father’s set but it was Tunde Kelani that gave him his first real acting gig. He featured on the highly acclaimed film titled Saworoide in 1999, playing the role of “Arese Jabata”.
He went on to feature in a few other movies, all the while working in the Bank until 2005 when he resigned. He had gotten an idea for a movie and decided to enrol in a course in digital film-making at the New York Film Academy. When he came back to Nigeria, he set up his production company – Golden Effects Picture. He has since gone on to produce multiple feature films. He lifted the bar for storytelling, production and directing in modern Nollywood with the release of his 2006 movie, Irapada. Some of his other producer/director credits include, October 1, The CEO, The Figurine, Phone Swap, Mokalik, Roti and The Tribunal. He also acts in some of his movies, either in major or minor roles. Kunle Afolayan released Citation(2020) a movie that takes on the sexual harassment that is rampant in Nigerian universities, featuring billionaire daughter, Temi Otedola in her debut role. His latest release being A Naija Christmas(2021).
Aremu Afolayan (born August 2, 1980) is the youngest in the field, amongst the four popular siblings upholding their father’s legacy. He appeared in his first movie in 2007. He says he joined acting because of his passion and not because his father was an actor. Just like his elder sister, Moji, he appears mostly in Yoruba films. He believes that Jaiye Kuti’s 2008 movie, Ewon Laafin helped make him a popular name in the movie industry. Just like all of Ade Love’s children, Aremu also dabbled into production, releasing movies like Ina and Ina Fitila.
Gabriel Afolayan (born March 1,1985) is a multi-award-winning Nigerian actor and singer. His stage name as a singer is G-Fresh. He got his first taste of acting in 1990 in F’Opawon, a film produced by Baba Sala. But he became popular after his appearance in Tade Ogidan’s 2005 movie, Madam Dearest. His role as ‘Akin’ on Super Story’s Nnena, however, cemented his place in Nollywood. Gabriel put in time and money into his training as an actor and it has made him one of the best acts in Nigeria.
He first studied Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan and later went on to study performing arts at the Identity Drama School, Brixton, London. He has featured in multiple movies, most of which are blockbusters. Some of his movies include, Tatu, King Invincible where he plays the role of Prince Adetiba, Gold Statue and Okafor’s Law. Asides from being an incredible actor, he started his music career in 1997 as a backup singer. Under the name G-Fresh, he has released over thirty songs. He describes his music as ‘love ballads’. He also owns a multimedia company, Studio 6 and has an endorsement with a major telecommunications company, Airtel Nigeria.
3. Priscilla Ojo
Priscilla Ajoke Ojo born 13th March, 2001 is the beautiful daughter of popular Yoruba actress and producer Iyabo Ojo. Priscilla is also an actress, entrepreneur and model.
She started her acting career at a very tender age and has also featured in some of her mum’s movie. Priscilla was 14 when she was nominated for BON Award’s Best Child Actress. The nomination was for her role in the movie titled “Beyond Disability”.
4. Regina Daniels
Regina Daniels is the daughter of Nollywood actress, Rita Daniels. Rita Daniels is also a filmmaker, movie producer, politician, investor, entrepreneur and is the current chairman of Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Delta State chapter. Regina Daniels, born 10 October 2000, has followed in her mother’s footsteps, who has helped nurture her since she was younger.
Regina started movie making at the age of seven. Her first movie was titled Marriage of Sorrow.
She is currently married to 59 year old billionaire, Ned Nwoko and on 29 June 2020, she gave birth to a baby boy for Nwoko.
5. Linc and Yul Edochie
Nollywood famous actors Yul and Linc Edochie are sons of Nollywood veteran actor, Pete Edochie.
Yul Edochie speaks exactly like his father and it is difficult to deny the similarities between them. Yul Edochie was born on 7th January 1982. Asides acting, Yul is a movie director and politician. In 2017, he contested for Governor of Anambra State and lost to his opponent Willie Obiano. In 2019, he wanted to run for the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, but later gave up and decided to support PDP Presidential aspirant Atiku Abubakar, who later lost the position to the incumbent president Muhammadu Buhari. He got married to May Yul in 2004 at the age of 22.
Yul’s elder brother, Linc Edochie is also involved in the movie industry with a good number of Nollywood movies to his name. He is a well-known actor, filmmaker, producer and director. He got married in 2010. Lincoln Edochie has been acting in Nollywood movies since 1995 before he took a long break from acting to concentrate on other things. Linc is back to the movie industry and has started acting again. He returned to Nollywood
in 2020.
6. Segun Ogungbe
Segun Ogungbe ( born 28 March 1970) is a popular Nigerian actor, film director and producer, known for blockbuster movie Ibi Giga. He is a son (some say he’s an uncle) of the late Akin Ogungbe, who was a Nigerian film actor, filmmaker, producer and director. The late Akin Ogungbe had 20 wives and 50 children, among his children is Segun Ogungbe. Segun Ogungbe has carved a niche for himself in the Yoruba movie industry and is happily married to 2 wives.
7. Femi, Sodiq and Tope Adebayo
Femi Adebayo also known as Jelili or Sonto alapata is a popular Nollywood actor. He is the son of veteran Nollywood actor Salami Adebayo aka Oga Bello.
Femi was born on 31st December 1978. Asides from being an actor, he is a Nigerian lawyer, director, producer and Special Adviser to the Governor of Kwara State on Arts, Culture and Tourism. He recently signed an ambassadorial deal with Startimes.
Sodiq and Tope aka Wedee are also sons of Oga Bello. Tope, popularly called as ‘Wedee Wedee’, is a director, actor and brand ambassador. He has produced movies like Sixty nine, Jelili, Onome Aganga, amongst others. He also stars in Funke Akindele-Bello’s movie Jenifa.
Sodiq is also an actor known for Aje metta (2008) and Aje metta 2 (2008) and is well known for his role as a movie producer in films like Omo Ghetto: The Saga (2020), The Monkey Men (2013) amongst others. Sodia Adebayo was Awarded City People Entertainment Award for Best Production Manager Of the Year (Yoruba).

1. Funke Akindele
Popular Nollywood actress Funke Akindele also known as “Jenifa” is one of Nollywood celebrities who have been to more than one husband. In May 2012, Funke Akindele married Adeola Kehinde Oloyede. Barely a year after they wedded, the marriage crashed and the couple divorced in July 2013. Funke Akindele later got married again to Nigerian rapper Abdul Rasheed Bello, also known as JJC Skillz in London on May 2016 exactly four years after her first marriage. The couple is now blessed with twins’ kids.
2. Monalisa Chinda
Beautiful Nollywood actress Monalisa Chinda has been married to more than one husband. The actress, film producer, television personality and media personality’s first marriage was to Mr. Dejo Richards. The marriage did not stand the test of time as it collapsed sooner than expected. The couple parted ways in 2009 after they had a daughter together. She later married Victor Tonye Coker in 2016 and they have been together till date.

She later ended her first marriage to Tunde Abiola in 2003. She then remarried again in 2004 to Femi Oduneye popularly known as Femi Egyptian. Nollywood beautiful actress Bukky Wright had previously been married to Gboyega Amu, who is the father of her two sons. Shortly after separating from Gboyega Amu, due to what she termed irreconcilable differences, she moved into the arms of fellow actor and one time NNPC staff and current member of the House of Representatives, Rotimi Makinde, without officially divorcing Gboyega Amu. Nollywood beautiful actress Stella Damasus has been married three times and involved in various affairs. Stella Damasus married her first husband, Jaiye Aboderin in 1999. Beloved celebrities who went too soon. Death is never an easy one to digest. It is very hard to accept, very hard to believe, and very hard to let go of.
When we met our favorite celebrities through which ever means we meet them for the first time, maybe TV, our phone, or wherever, we develop a connection to them. To the characters they play, the music they make, the art they give to the world. We grow to follow them and know a lot about them.
So when life takes them away especially at such young ages, we are left devastated wondering all that their lives and careers could have been.
Today, I’m counting down 15 Nigerian Celebrities who tragically died before the age of 40.
1. Bisi Komolafe

Fast-rising Nollywood actress, Bisi Komolafe, died on December 31, 2012 at the University Teaching Hospital, Ibadan as a result of pregnancy-related complications. The beautiful actress was only 27 at the time of her unfortunate demise.
She was later buried on January 4, 2013 in Ibadan.
2. Clems Onyeka

Nollywood actor Clems Onyeka was shot and killed in October 14, 2014 when he got caught in a crossfire between the police and armed robbers in Asaba, Delta State.
The 37-year-old actor was shot along Summit Express, Asaba, Delta State while the police and armed robbers who were attempting to hijack a bullion van engaged in a fiery gunfight.
Clems Onyeka died on the spot. He was returning from the set of a movie.
3. Muna Obiekwe

Beloved and renowned Nollywood actor, Muna Obiekwe, was a household name in Nigeria until he tragically died on Sunday, January 18, 2015 after a long battle with kidney disease.
The amazing actor was only 36 years old when he passed away.
4. Okwy Chukwujekwu

27 year old up and coming actor, Okwy Chukwujekwu, popularly known as ‘Main Boss Man’ suddenly slumped during the shooting of a movie on Tuesday, September 5th, 2017.
The autopsy result revealed that an asthmatic attack was the cause of his death. The actor was buried October 5th 2017 at his hometown Otolo Nnewi, Anambra state.
5. Goldie

Nigerian singer and Big Brother Africa star Susan Oluwabimpe “Goldie” Filani Harvey had a fast-rising career and had established herself as one of the major female artistes in Nigeria before her unfortunate death on 14 February 2013.
Goldie died after returning home to Nigeria from the 2013 Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California, USA. She complained of a headache and was rushed to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
According to the autopsy conducted by the Department of Pathology and Forensic Medicine of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Goldie died of ‘hypertensive heart disease,’ which triggered an “intracerebellar hemorrhage.”
She was buried at the Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos on the 25th of February, 2013. She died at the young age of 31.
6. Zara Gretti

Popular Nigerian singer, Zara Gretti died on March 28, 2014 after a battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Born Margret Oluwatoyin Ejiro Joseph, the beautiful singer died at the young age of 28.
7. Tosyn Bucknor

Nigerian media personality Oluwatosin Tosyn Bucknor died on November 19, 2018 due to complications from sickle cell.
The beloved OAP was found dead by her husband, Aurelien Boyer, when he arrived home from work on 19 November 2018.
Tosyn was born with sickle cell anaemia and died at the young age of 37 years.
8. DaGrin

DaGrin was a Nigerian rapper from Ogun State. He died at the age of 25 on April 22nd, 2010 after he was involved in a ghastly motor accident which happened in the early hours of April 14, 2010. HIs car collided with a stationary trailer in front of Alakara Police Station in Mushin, Lagos. He survived a serious head injury as a result of the crash, but eight days after the accident after being admitted in the hospital and being operated on over, the rapper passed away.
9. Nelson Gold

Nelson Gold was a budding Nollywood actor with a promising future ahead of him.
According to reports, the fast-rising actor and graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, slumped at a movie location in Enugu and was rushed to the hospital where he remained in a coma until he passed on 15th June 2018.
He died only ten days after celebrating his birthday.
10. Kefee

Top Nigerian gospel singer, Kefee Obareki died of lung failure in a Los Angeles hospital on Thursday, June 12, 2014 after being in a coma for 15 days.
The beloved singer died at the age of 34 and was buried amidst tears on Friday July 11, 2014 in her hometown of Okpara Inland, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, Nigeria.
11. MC Loph

MC Loph’s career was on the up and up. His songs were quickly turning into fan favorites across the country. But on September 14, 2011, after being involved in a car accident on Benin-Ore expressway, MC Loph died. He was only 33 at the time of his death.
12. Olamide David

Olamide David was a Nigerian male child actor best known for playing the lead role in a movie called “Cobweb”. He died at the age of 14 on January 18, 2016 after he was mistakenly kicked in the stomach by another player while playing football. He fell to the ground and complained of pains. They rushed him to the hospital where he died a few hours later.
13. Fada U-Turn

One of Nigeria’s most popular 90s musicians Olufemi Mayomi, a.k.a Fada U-Turn, tragically died on Sunday, November 17, 2013 due to a kidney related disease. The singer was only 36 years old as at the time of his death.
14. Ireti

Adebimpe Adekola popularly known as ‘Ireti’ was a popular 90s actress who was a leading woman in the Yoruba sector of the Nigerian movie industry.
The actress tragically died on Friday, September 27, 2002 after a brief illness due to some complications suspected to be from typhoid fever.
She was in her early 30s.
15. Alizee

Nigerian singer, Zainab Nielsen popularly known as Alizee was murdered on April 5, 2018 by her Danish husband, Peter Nielsen, in their residence at Bellasta Towers, Banana Island, Ikoyi. She was murdered along with their three-year-old daughter, Petra.
According to reports, Peter hit his wife’s head severally on the wall causing her to die, before proceeded to poison his daughter. He then went on to drag his wife and daughter’s lifeless bodies to the kitchen close to the gas to create the illusion that the two women suffocated to death as a result of a gas leakage.
The husband, 53 year old Peter Nielsen, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him and was remanded in Ikoyi Prisons on the orders of a Yaba Chief Magistrates’ Court.
Zainab was only 37 years old when she died. Her daughter was only 3.
